A Turkish-inspired Arts & Crafts design originally commissioned for the British Prime Minister's residence at No. 10 Downing Street, London, and woven by Donegal Carpets of Ireland in the early 1900s. We included the Downing design in our Legacy Collection and it is hand-knotted of pure Himalayan wool by weavers using a traditional Tibetan crossed-weave technique. We're focused on building our stock of Voysey and Knox Collection pieces now and are closing out the few remaining carpets from our Legacy Collection.
Aside from a warm wheat and salmon color, the Downing also has a medium green, a dark tan color, and just a splash of light blue.
Downing is hand-knotted at 80 knots per square inch and there are extra plies of yarn, resulting in a very thick, tightly packed pile. Due to the density of the wool and knotting technique, this carpet is extremely durable and would be ideal for high-traffic areas. It has all the great properties of quality wool such as natural lanolin, which means it is stain-resistant and easy to clean up in the event that it takes a hit from your kids or pets. This carpet is first quality, it has no flaws and is new from the mill.
