An original Donegal Carpets of Ireland Arts & Crafts design supplied to the English Houses of Parliament in the early 1900s. What we find so playful about this carpet is the clovers in the border- certainly an Irish motif, yet it was made for England- what an amusing insertion. I sure wish we knew the back story on that, but alas, it is lost to history.
We do know that Donegals were made to order “bespoke, and were highly regarded by architects, designers, and the general public. Donegal carpets have been commissioned by the White House, the Vatican,The English House of Parliment and the British Prime Minister’s residence at 10 Downing Street, among others.

We took this charming Westminster from Donegal's original design archives and commissioned it to be entirely handcrafted by artisans in Nepal, using the finest Himalayan wool and Swiss metal-complex dyes. It is hand-knotted at 80 knots per square inch and there are extra plies of yarn, resulting in a very thick, tightly packed, but soft pile. Due to the density of the wool and knotting technique, this carpet is extremely durable and would be ideal for high-traffic areas. It has all the great properties of quality wool such as natural lanolin, which means it is stain-resistant and easy to clean up in the event that it takes a hit from your kids or pets. Both the 6x9 and 8x10 carpet are first quality; they have no flaws and are new from the mill. As with all our carpets, they were made in a GoodWeave-certified workshop, so you can rest assured that no child labor was used in the production of this carpet.
