Wykehamist 2

Designed in 1897, the Wykehamist is a bold example of Voysey's sense of proportion and contrasting scale, and is the most abstract of all the GuildCraft carpet motifs. The elements of the field are large shapes of color that depict extremely stylized leaves, branches and flowers. As with many of Voysey's designs from the 1890's, the Wykehamist was also produced as a wallpaper by Essex & Co. and as a woven textile by Alexander Morton & Sons (Donegal Carpets), two British companies that regularly executed designs by Voysey for the commercial market.
